About Tags
Assigning tags to your content makes it easier for you and others to find later. You can assign tags to existing or new content (discussions, documents, blog posts, videos, etc). and can also add a tag to another member's content if you have the correct permissions to edit. You can even assign tags to a status update.
Tags are great because:
- They help you find content that's relevant to your interests and help people find your content faster
- They help you find other members that have similar experiences and expertise as yourself and help those same members find you
- Tags act like index keywords that you and other members assign to content to provide context for searching later
Tagging Content
To assign tags to a status update, type # before the keyword, for example:
Now, other members will find this status update whenever they search for "documentation" and "tagging."
To assign tags to content, open or create your content and scroll to the bottom of the page to the Tags box.
Think of the keywords, or tags, you would use to search for this content and enter them in the Tags box. Consider using any existing tags that pop-up in the suggestion box. Existing tags are often assigned to related content, so it's good practice to use them. An underscore can help with longer tags such as creo_parametric_3.0.
You can speed up tagging by changing your user preferences to enable on-the-fly tagging. To do so click on your avatar in the upper right corner and then Preferences. Turn on Quick Tagging Mode and then click Save.
Searching for Tagged Content
You can also Browse all tags on PTC Community to search for content that has been tagged already.
Once on this page you can find all available tags, you can limit your list to a specific tag type, or even sort the tags differently. The more member's tag their content with a certain term the larger that term will appear in the tag cloud (seen above when sorted by frequency) meaning it is growing in popularity. The more tagged content members create for a term, the better the term will do in returning search results.
